Only overtime that is not
being used to serve customers should be eliminated.
If there is so much need for
your services, your business is either doing very well and
likely growing, or some employees are not working
efficiently.
Human Efficiencies:
If your all workers are busy
doing something, then verify that each employee is working
efficiently. This means you must determine if each worker
understands his job and task assignments and is using the
appropriate paper forms and computer functions and screens
efficiently and correctly.
If not, then re-training is
called for. If re-training does not improve those workers'
efficiencies, they should be reassigned or let go.
If re-training improves worker
efficiency, it is appropriate to continue to improve other
areas' efficiencies.
Manual & Automated Systems:
Further efficiency review
should include appropriate and knowledgeable management
review of all work flow, paper forms, and computer system
functions.
If paper forms are not clear
for the staff and patients, they are costing your business
time. These forms should be revised.
If computer functions and
display screens are causing confusion, back and forward
usages, or forcing the re-entry of data, they should be
designed. Often field data may be consolidated from two or
more screens onto fewer screen displays. This will save time
and operator confusion.
Overtime:
If your facility is busy --
and shows for potential growth after all efficiencies have
been ensured, consider hiring additional qualified staff.
Allow the business to grow and
prosper.
